Andrew Schmidt, 19, was scheduled to appear in Greenwich Superior Court on Wednesday morning after pleading guilty to the April 2016 hit-and-run. However, his case was postponed and he is scheduled to return on Tuesday, Dec. 11, when he is expected to receive a prison term of between one and three years.
Schmidt was driving a Mercedes-Benz with his friends on East Putnam Avenue on the day of the fatal crash, when he struck Edward Setterberg, 43, and sped away. Investigators eventually tracked him down and he was arrested and charged with evading responsibility involving a fatality.
Although he has been free on $100,000 bond since his arrest in 2016, Schmidt was also busted in December last year for doing “doughnuts” and damaging a field near I-95 in Greenwich while driving a Hummer. His driving privileges were revoked as a result of that incident, and he is scheduled to answer those charges on Dec. 11 when he returns to court for the hit-and-run sentencing.
